Growing In The Knowledge Of Jesus

Current Project:  Please pray for Gary as he does some final editing on the manuscript for his newest book, Growing in the Knowledge of Jesus.  This is a book on discipleship which is based on the clear exposition of Scripture and cuts through the maze of man-made programs to rediscover God's design for discipleship.

THE Light of Athoni

Novel Soon To Be Published: The Light of Athoni is an adult fiction (high school and above) with allegorical characteristics. The purpose of this book is to present theological truth in an entertaining package. While Christians will readily identify with and be challenged by the spiritual implications, we believe this book will be well received in the secular market and our desire is that God would use it to affect change in the hearts of all who read it.

A unique blending of theology and adventure, the main thrust of the story is that the Kingdom of Athoni faces a final stand against the evil Kingdom of Gogdor and its dark Lord, Apollyon. The story reveals the inability of man, despite his greatest and noblest efforts, to win against evil. It is only by finding the Light that darkness can be overcome. In addition to man’s struggle, the war in the unseen but ever present angelic realm adds yet another dimension to the story.

The spiritual struggle depicted in The Light of Athoni, though set in a mythical medieval frame, relates to people of any time period. But there is a special connection to societies, such as ours, in which humanism and secularism and science are faulty saviors. This book presents the folly of such societal remedies as well as the need for individual, personal reckoning with the darkness within.

Ten years have passed since the conception of this work of fiction and its birth. Gary and Sherrie (co-authors) have just completed the manuscript and are currently working on the ‘extras’ to be included in the printing – per the publisher’s request (Capstone Fiction). Should God so choose to use it, a prequel and sequel are currently in the wings. Please pray with us the prayer that never fails concerning the distribution and impact of this work on all who receive it. “Thy will be done Lord!”

GOLD UNDER FIRE

Suffering . . . trials turned to gold

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:6–7).

“This is one of the best books we’ve seen on the delicate subject of why Christians suffer. The author has dug deeply into the Word of God for answers . . . We add our commendation and recommend it highly. To sum up in a single word: ‘outstanding!’”

—Dr. Charles Sumner in The Biblical Evangelist

Trials are closely followed by questions. Adversity calls for answers. Questions like: “If God loves me, why does He let me suffer like this? If God is in control, why is my life so out of control? What is God trying to teach me through this trial? Why is this happening to me?” haunt us when we walk through tough times. Gold Under Fire brings biblical light to these and other troubling questions. Trials bring questions; God has answers. The ultimate goal of this study, however, is not just to answer questions but to experience “the oil of joy for mourning . . . that He might be glorified” (Isaiah 61:3).

“One of the ways God has brought encouragement to us during these days is through reading this outstanding book by my former student and dear friend, Gary Crandall. I warmly commend this book to every Christian who needs God’s comfort and encouragement on a moment-by-moment basis.”

—Dr. John. C. Whitcomb
